Where can I eat near the Cape Liberty Cruise Port?
Although there are no restaurants near the port, the nearby city of Newark has every restaurant and type of food imaginable. Additionally, there is a food truck with coffee, bagels, and other delicious bites outside the entrance of the cruise terminal, which is convenient for those departing on cruises from New Jersey.
Whats the culture & history of the Cape Liberty cruise port?
Conveniently located in Lower New York Harbor, the Cape Liberty Cruise Port was originally created by private developers in 1930 who intended it for industrial use. However, the ideal location and sheer size of the port made it an ideal candidate for use by the U.S. Navy in WWII. The peninsula upon which the port sits off the eastern end of Bayonne Bay is man-made. In 2003, the BLRA and Royal Caribbean International announced their agreement to turn the 430-acre port into a cruise terminal, and in 2013 Royal Caribbean International built a brand new, sleek, and innovative cruise terminal featuring LED lighting and modern design.
Where can I go shopping near the port?
Since the cruise port sits on a peninsula off the mainland, there are no shopping options in proximity to the port, besides a kiosk with basic essentials in the cruise terminal. About a 20-minute drive from the port, guests can find TJ Maxx and Walmart for last-minute cruise essentials.
How can I get around New Jersey?
You Could Experience Rough Seas
Personally, I love a little pitch and roll when Im on a cruise ship. Its part of the charm of sea travel. But if youre the kind of person who is going to be laid low by even a small sway, a Bermuda cruise may not be for you.
Unlike St. Thomas, St. Martin and most of the other sunny isles that cruise ships visit from Eastern ports, Bermuda isnt in the relatively calm Caribbean. Its way out in the North Atlantic, and thats a body of water that isnt always tranquil.
On the way to Bermuda a few weeks ago, we got sideswiped by one of those big North Atlantic storms that conjured winds of 55 knots and waves as high as 12 feet. Those are the sort of numbers that will cause even the biggest, most stable ships to move around a bit. While I was basically fine, there were plenty of passengers looking a little green.
The heavy winds also prompted the ships captain to order the closing and draining of its deck-top pools, where the water was sloshing around, and the closing of deck-top waterslides and other deck-top play zones, all of which are normally top draws on a sea day.
Not every ship on a Bermuda cruise experiences such a storm, for sure. And even when they do, its generally a transitory thing. Sailing back from Bermuda just a couple days later, we experienced much calmer seas and mostly sunny skies, providing for a lovely sea day. But a day or two of iffy weather on your Bermuda sailing is definitely a possibility.

You Need To Carefully Choose The Ship
Because you’re going to spend a good chunk of your short Bermuda cruise not in Bermuda at all, but on your ship, it’s important to choose the right vessel for you.
One way to look at short Bermuda cruises is that they really are resort vacations, not Bermuda vacations, with the resort being your cruise ship. Put another way, the vessel isnt your transportation to your destination. It is your destination. The stop in Bermuda is almost tangential to the experience.
So, you want to look closely at the various ships offering the trips and weigh how they match up to your personality. Are you a huge Disney fan? That makes it easy. The three short Disney sailings to Bermuda later this year are the way to go . Meet-and-greets with Disney characters, Disney-themed shows and the most extensive kiddie fun zones at sea are just a few of the family-friendly allures of a Disney cruise.
For families who arent so hung up on Disney, a top choice is Anthem of the Seas, the Royal Caribbean ship sailing out of the New York area . Its chock-full of family-friendly attractions that play particularly well with teens such as a deck-top skydiving simulator and a bumper cars pavilion.
When Do Cruise Lines Sail To Bermuda
Despite the typical Bermuda cruise season lasting from April-October, some cruise lines sail to Bermuda year-round. Norwegian Cruise Line, for instance, has cruises scheduled to Bermuda starting as early as January 2023. While the temperatures might be more chilly than most cruisers prefer, these earlier sailings are often great prices!
Most mainstream cruise lines, however, sail to Bermuda seasonally.

What Is The Best Time Of Year To Go To Bermuda
Celebrity Summit Cruise Day 2 to Bermuda
Many people think that the temperate months are the best time to visit Bermuda and enjoy the beach. That would be in March or April, when prices are lowest and crowds are at a minimum. Your Travel Dates Are Limited
While you can fly to Bermuda for a hotel stay on any day of the year, cruise ships typically only sail there between April and November, and they dont go every day during those months. There often are just one or two short cruises to Bermuda from all East Coast ports combined in any given week.
There also only are a few lines that offer the trips. For this coming summer and fall, your choices are limited to Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line.
Royal Caribbean is by far the biggest seller of short cruises to Bermuda, with regular five-night sailings this year from the New York-area on the 4,180-passenger Anthem of the Seas and from Baltimore on the 1,992-passenger Grandeur of the Seas. This year, the line also is offering a single five-night sailing from Boston on the 2,146-passenger Serenade of the Seas.
Carnivals short cruises to Bermuda this year, all on Sunrise, are four nights in length and mostly take place out of New York, with a single four-night sailing out of Charleston, South Carolina.
Norwegian and Disney each have three short cruises to Bermuda on the schedule between now and the end of the 2019 season, all out of New York.
For those already looking ahead to 2020, the big news is that Norwegian is planning far more short Bermuda cruises. On the flipside, Disney is planning to skip the destination entirely next year.
Bermuda Cruises Travel Tips
- The main form of transportation in Bermuda is walking or by motorbike. It’s impossible to rent a car when you visit the island because the government banned car rentals.
- The island of Bermuda is most well-known for its beaches, so make time to visit at least one beach during your trip. You truly won’t regret it because each beach is like paradise on earth. Keep in mind that some beaches are hidden-gems while others are a lot more popular!
- Bermuda can be quite expensive, and you can quickly rack up a costly bill while you’re out at a restaurant. Make sure you pay close attention to the cost of things when you’re out and about!
- Don’t drink the tap water in Bermuda because the water isn’t super clean or safe. Instead, be sure to purchase water bottles while you’re out to have something to drink during your trip.
- If you go swimming, make sure to be on the lookout for jellyfish that can sting and other animals that might cause you harm in the water. It’s not likely that you’ll get stung, but it’s good to keep your eyes open just in case.
- Make sure you pack your swimsuit, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Bermuda sees a lot of sun and you’ll want to protect yourself when you visit the beaches.
